We become what we think

The other day I was getting my eyelashes done and couldn’t help myself but listen to the lady next to me bitch about almost every aspect of her life. She kept making comments blaming the world for why so much negativity was happening in her life, trying to justify that’s just how things are for everyone. It started to really annoy me and I kept finding myself wanting to say something about how your thoughts shape your reality. Then I started to think about my mindset not too long ago and how similar it was to this lady next to me.

I’ve gone through ups and downs in my life and every time I’m in a low, it’s because I’m too in my head and thinking everything negative will happen so it does. Time and time again, the universe has proven to me that when you think positively, good things will come. Because of this, I truly believe that the energy you put out into the world determines the type of energy you receive. Sometimes you’ll be tested to push against negative energy which only makes you stronger. There’s a quote that I used to have on my desktop background that I try to remember at all times:

“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.” – Buddha

As I go through this period of self-reflection and re-finding myself, it can be hard not to get caught up in the emotions I’m feeling and to trust that everything will work out in the long run. Listening to this woman complain was a great reminder about the importance of being mindful and always thinking positively. Great things are in my future and what I’m going through now will allow me to really appreciate them when they’re here.
